Indexing Qualifications

Over thirty years in information services and library reference work have given me a broad knowledge base in many subject areas. I have indexed materials and designed information retrieval systems and thesauri for special libraries in fields as diverse as public broadcasting and international agricultural development.

Indexing Experience

Clients have included book indexes for Ashgate Publishing, North Atlantic Books, Resources for the Future/Earthscan, Oxford University Press, Routledge, individual authors, and other publishers. I provided newsletter indexes for the American Polarity Therapy and Dr. Clark Research Associations and cumulative annual indexes for a complementary health journal.

  • Freelance indexer since 2001.
  • Candid/Foundation Center, New York, NY   ̶   currently indexing grants for online database.
  • Joint World Bank/International Monetary Fund Library, Washington, DC   ̶   indexed over 24,000 English and foreign language articles and papers for inclusion in the online catalog.
  • World Resources Institute Library, Washington, DC   ̶   created and applied an international environmental policy subject thesaurus as part of custom cataloging all materials.
  • Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Washington, DC   ̶   organized, analyzed, and indexed materials after designing an original telecommunications subject classification system and thesaurus for the collection of the Office of Policy Development and Planning.
  • Agricultural Cooperative Development International, Washington, DC   ̶   developed a subject thesaurus and computer database of library collection after organizing all materials.
  • Alameda Free Library, Alameda, CA   ̶   indexed California historical and natural science journals while serving as a reference librarian.
